China and the United States are in close communication on the specific arrangements of a video meeting between their presidents, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said on Friday. Wang made the remarks at a regular press briefing when answering a relevant query. He said Chinese President Xi Jinping had two phone conversations with U.S. President Joe Biden this year. The two heads of state agreed to maintain regular contact in various ways, Wang added.
“We hope that the U.S. side will work with China to make the meeting a success and bring China-U.S. ties back to the right track of sound and stable development,” said the spokesperson. The Chinese Foreign Ministry said in October hat the two countries had discussed holding a video summit between their leaders by the end of the year, following a meeting between senior Chinese diplomat Yang Jiechi and American National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan in Zurich.
