Chinese authorities on Monday issued a guideline on facilitating “Internet plus tourism,” showing the way for tourist destinations to become intelligent.
The guideline, jointly released by 10 government departments including the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the National Development and Reform Commission, noted that by 2025, tourist attractions rated 4A or above are to be upgraded and become more intelligent in providing services. The guideline calls on tourist attractions and resorts to expand 5G network coverage and speed up the application of unmanned, non-contact facilities. It also encourages tourist destinations to make use of advanced technologies such as big data and cloud computing to provide detailed traffic, weather and other tourist information in a timely manner. According to the guideline, China aims to revive tourism to pre-COVID-19 levels by 2022.
