China is predicted to take the lead in global auto exports for 2023, surpassing Japan in full-year sales. On January 11, China’s Association of Automobile Manufacturers reported that Chinese carmakers produced a record 30.16 million vehicles last year, with wholesale deliveries also exceeding 30 million. Nearly five million cars were exported for the year. The group attributes the numbers to the improved quality of Chinese products as well as growing global appetite for new energy vehicles. Shenzhen-headquartered company BYD remains at the forefront of the trend, overtaking Tesla in the fourth quarter to become the world’s top-selling pure electric vehicle brand.
