Pei Tangyu has been making lacquered gourd for more than five years in his hometown of Xiaxian County in Yuncheng City, north China’s Shanxi Province. He has combined several traditional techniques to make unique lacquered gourds. The Chinese lacquer that Pei uses is a natural resin from lacquer tree, dating back more than 8,000 years.
