Among the individuals meeting French President Emmanuel Macron during his China visit, some are from the Sino-French Institute of Nuclear Engineering and Technology. For over a decade, the program has played a key part in training a workforce dedicated to nuclear energy. Nuclear is considered a source of clean, low-carbon electricity crucial to meeting China’s decarbonization goals. The sector has also enjoyed a resurgence in global energy markets especially following a tumultuous year in coal and gas supplies. Professor Jean-Marie Bourgeois-Demersay, who co-leads the IFCEN program in Guangdong Province, says Macron’s visit is a clear sign of recognition and support for the young experts who are participating in a global taskforce in building next-generation reactors.
